A               study               published               in               the               journal               Dermatitis               showed               that               coconut               oil               was               as               effective               as               mineral               oil               for               treating               dry,               rough,               scaly               skin.

Although               mineral               oil               has               superior               moisturizing               properties,               it's               derived               from               petroleum               and               can               clog               the               pores.

Coconut               oil               provides               a               safe               and               effective               non-petroleum               based               alternative               to               mineral               oil               moisturizers.
               Best               Skin               Oils:               Pomegranate               Seed               Oil
               Is               there               any               end               to               the               wonders               of               the               pomegranate               fruit?

A               recent               study               showed               that               antioxidant               rich               pomegranate               seed               oil               stimulates               skin               cells               known               as               keratinocytes               which               help               to               regenerate               the               outer               layer               of               the               skin,               the               epidermis.

This               could               play               a               role               in               preventing               wrinkles               and               skin               aging.

               Olive               oil               has               strong               anti-inflammatory               properties               due               to               its               high               concentration               of               polyphenols               and               a               substance               known               as               oleocanthal.

A               Japanese               study               showed               that               extra               virgin               olive               oil               protects               against               skin               cancer               induced               by               ultraviolet               light,               at               least               in               rats.

No               wonder               so               many               commercial               moisturizing               products               are               olive               oil               based.

There's               no               need               to               buy               the               more               expensive               products               when               you               have               a               bottle               of               extra               virgin               olive               oil               in               your               kitchen.
               Keep               in               mind               that               some               oils               may               be               too               heavy               for               certain               skin               types.

If               you               have               oily               skin,               use               one               of               the               lighter               oils               such               as               almond               and               only               use               it               on               the               dryer               areas               of               your               face               and               body               to               avoid               breakouts.

                   Ingredients               That               Have               the               Potential               of               Having               Dairy               in               Them
                   Artificial               Flavors               or               Flavoring,               Natural               Flavors               or               Flavoring               and               High               Protein               Flour               -               As               very               vague               ingredients               they               may               very               well               be               derived               from               a               dairy               product.


                   Brown               Sugar               Flavoring               -               The               dairy               content               will               depend               on               the               process               that               it               was               manufactured.


                   Caramel               Color,               Caramel               Flavoring,               Coconut               Cream               Flavoring               and               Natural               Egg               Flavor               -               Also               all               depend               upon               the               manufacturing               process.


                   Galactose               -               Though               this               is               often               tolerable               for               people               lactose               intolerant               it               is               a               lactose               product.


                   Ghee               -               Generally               ghee               is               pure               butter               fat               with               no               protein               or               sugars,               but               it               may               contain               traces               of               dairy.


                   Hydrolyzed               Vegetable               Protein               -               Another               thing               that               does               not               often               cause               allergies               but               the               processing               phase               may               use               casein.


                   Lactic               Acid               Starter               Culture               -               Not               to               be               confused               with               Lactic               Acid               this               may               contain               milk.


                   Margarine               -               Most               brands               are               found               with               milk               proteins               in               them.


                   Protein               -               There               are               cases               where               the               protein               that               an               ingredient               is               referring               to               is               often               milk.

    Particularly               high               energy               foods               with               added               protein.


                   Fat               Replacers               -               Dairy-Lo®               and               Simplesse®               are               such               brands               that               are               made               with               milk               protein.


                   Soy               Cheese               -               Often               lactose               free,               but               many               kinds               often               contains               milk               protein.


                   Non-Dairy               -               Oddly               enough               this               does               not               mean               dairy               free.

    It               simply               indicates               that               there               is               1/2%               or               less               of               milk               by               weight.
                   There               are               some               ingredients               that               will               appear               to               be               dairy               food               items               but               they               are               in               fact               not.
                   Ingredients               That               Appear               to               Be               Dairy               Ingredients               But               are               Dairy               Free
                   Calcium               Lactate               
                   Calcium               Propionate               
                   Calcium               Stearoyl               
                   Cocoa               Butter               
                   Cocoa               Powder

                   The               longer               that               you               are               dairy               free               the               easier               it               will               be               to               remember               what               is               dairy,               what               might               be               dairy               and               what               isn't               dairy.

    You               will               also               begin               to               know               what               foods               that               you               should               look               for               that               have               the               potential               of               having               dairy               in               them,               even               though               they               may               not               seem               like               a               type               of               food               that               you               immediately               don't               think               of               when               you               think               of               what               has               dairy               in               it.
                   Bread,               donuts               and               biscuits               usually               will               have               dairy               in               them.

    When               you               are               shopping               for               bread               you               will               often               notice               the               word               whey               in               the               list               of               ingredients,               which               of               course               is               considered               dairy.

    Your               sweet               tooth               may               not               want               to               hear               this               but               chocolate,               many               candies,               chips               and               a               variety               of               other               junk               food               often               are               not               dairy               free.

    You               may               have               to               change               your               breakfast               choices               because               many               cereals,               brands               of               pre-made               waffle               and               pancakes               as               well               as               the               mixes               contain               dairy.
                   Such               food               items               like               salad               dressings               may               contain               dairy.

    Canned               soups               and               soup               mixes               are               another               example               of               foods               that               often               contain               dairy.

    Chips,               instant               hot               drinks,               pie               fillings,               hot               dogs               and               many               processed               meat               ares               just               a               few               more               examples               of               foods               that               you               will               want               to               read               the               label               of               carefully               because               they               often               are               not               dairy               free.

    Again               the               longer               that               you               are               dairy               free               the               easier               it               will               be               to               shop               for               things               that               do               not               contain               dairy.

                   You               probably               think               of               butter               as               an               unhealthy               fat               that               should               be               avoided               at               all               costs.

    But               is               it?

    Actually,               butter               is               healthier               than               its               replacements               because               it               contains               healthy               fatty               acids,               vitamins               and               minerals               that               you               will               not               find               in               alternatives,               such               as               margarine.

    And               some               of               the               other               cooking               fats               you               avoid               might               be               healthier               than               you               think.

    What               are               they?

                   Types               of               healthy               fats               for               cooking

                   As               I               just               mentioned,               butter               is               one               type               of               healthy               fat               to               use               in               cooking;               real               butter               is               actually               not               as               unhealthy               as               many               people               believe.

    Margarine               and               butter               replacements               are               much               more               unhealthy.

    Coconut               oil               is               another               type               of               healthy               fat               I               use               in               my               cooking.

    Coconut               oil               is               commonly               believed               to               be               "bad"               because               it               is               more               than               90               percent               saturate               fat;               however,               about               half               of               the               saturated               fat               is               medium-chain               fatty               acids,               making               it               easier               to               digest.

    Lard               is               also               healthier               than               you               may               think;               it               is               made               up               of               mostly               oleic               acid,               a               heart-healthy               essential               fatty               acid.

                   Ways               to               incorporate               them               into               your               cooking

                   Lard               has               a               high               smoke               point,               making               it               a               good               choice               for               frying               crispy               foods.

    I               use               both               butter               and               coconut               oil               for               baking               and               pan               frying               food,               such               as               eggs.

    I               use               them               both               to               coat               pasta,               rice               and               quinoa.

    Either               butter               or               coconut               oil               can               be               drizzled               on               popcorn.

    They               can               also               be               used               as               spreads               for               bread               or               crackers.

    I               have               even               used               coconut               oil               to               make               my               own,               homemade               chocolate;               it               can               be               used               to               make               a               variety               of               treats.

                   Unhealthy               fats               to               limit               or               avoid

                   Although               olive               oil               is               not               necessarily               unhealthy,               it               is               not               the               healthiest               cooking               option,               either.

    It               has               a               low               smoke               point,               so               if               you               want               to               incorporate               it               into               your               diet,               it               may               be               best               used               uncooked,               as               a               salad               dressing,               for               example.

    Margarine               and               other               butter               replacements               are               to               be               avoided,               and               the               same               goes               for               canola               oil.

    Avoid               any               cooking               oils               that               are               high               in               polyunsaturated               fatty               acids,               which               are               easily               oxidized               by               oxygen               and               heat,               and               can               cause               oxidative               damage.

                   Butter,               coconut               oil               and               lard               are               three               healthy               fats               that               you               might               have               previously               thought               of               as               unhealthy,               and               you               might               have               thought               olive               oil               and               margarine               were               better               replacements.

    Incorporate               these               healthy               fats               into               your               cooking               in               various               ways,               including               those               discussed               in               this               article.
